matthiessen

Having had such a good time at Starved Rock, this morning we decided to try our luck at neighboring Matthiessen State Park. It has similar topography, meaning canyons and waterfalls, so we had high hopes. When we got there, we found a wooden fort situated at the top of a LOT of stairs that led down to the hiking paths, so down we went. We did see a couple of nice-looking waterfalls, but they weren't nearly as accessible as the ones at Starved Rock. We ran into the same flooding problem too, as you can see in the picture where Liam appears to be taking the steps down directly into a river. There is apparently a path there that leads up to another waterfall, but obviously we couldn't get to it. On the plus side, it was another cold and dreary day, so we had the park pretty much to ourselves, just like yesterday.
