some excitement

Saturday afternoon, Mike and Henry went to get groceries, and when they came out of the store, the sky was gray and filled with ash; the car was covered with it. Then the roads were blocked, so they had to go the long way home. Granted, our town is quite small, so even the "long" way isn't so bad, but still. Anyway, it turns out that an old wire factory was engulfed in flames. And that's how it stayed for most of the night. It was the biggest fire in town history, and we saw on the news that they had to call in seven other fire departments to get it under control. We could see the flames clearly from our back deck, especially once the sun set, and my dad said he could see the smoke from their house, which is 20 miles away.

The next morning, we were going to the park, and stopped along the way to check out the site, which was pretty exciting for the boys. The ruins were still smoldering, and the fire department was still out there putting out hot spots. They said it will take days before the fire is completely out. The boys were fascinated. They get to see fire trucks up close and personal on a pretty regular basis, but I think this might be the first time they've actually seen them at work.

365 project: week 9

This week: The brothers hang out together, a lot; I learn that trusting a two-year-old to do your hair is maybe not a great idea; Liam thinks brother kisses have cooties; I finally choose a new fabric and cover the dining room chairs (again!); Max has trouble sleeping; and Henry rocks out.
