wind cave national park

We all know how Mike loves a good cave!

Don't listen to me; he really does not enjoy caves. But this one's in a national park, so he endured it for our sake. But don't worry, we totally compromised: We're skipping Jewel Cave National Monument, because one cave is enough for any vacation. At least, one cave is enough for Mike.

Anyway. Wind Cave. We got up early to take the first tour of the day, the natural entrance tour. I was expecting something like Mammoth Cave, so imagine my surprise when I discovered that Wind Cave is more what I would call "lots of tunnels" than a proper cave. We basically went single file through the whole thing, down lots of stairs, and through passages with low ceilings so we had to call back to let the people behind us in line know to watch their heads.

Our photographer for the cave tour was Henry, partly because he was at the front of the line, and partly because he just wanted to take pictures. I think he did a nice job capturing a lot of the formations.

Back outside, we saw tons of bison roaming and grazing, along with some prairie dogs. We were only in the park for the morning, but we really enjoyed it!
