We burned rubber this morning getting out of the Sylvan Lake Lodge, and ended up in Spearfish, South Dakota, where we had breakfast at Perkins. I know it's a chain restaurant, but we've never been there before, and it was exactly what we needed. Also the boys posed for the best picture I've taken of them in a long while.
Thus fortified, we drove into Wyoming to visit Devils Tower National Monument. The road was wide open, and the sky was endless and moody. It was raining a little on our way up to the tower, then it turned sunny, then it started raining again. We braved the rain, though, to walk up the trail to get up close and personal with this fascinating rock. Definitely a worthwhile detour!
After a leisurely exploration, we got back on the road and headed up through Montana and over into North Dakota. Look at that sky!
