interstate parks project, part 1: goosenecks state park, utah

We made a resolution this year to visit a state park in at least 10 different states. It'll be easy, we thought, given just how many states we planned to go through on our big western road trip. HA! We stopped at zero state parks in Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, or Colorado. But we managed to visit one in Utah this morning, so we're off to a ... start.

Goosenecks State Park near Mexican Hat is named for the type of river meander. You can sort of see it from above, but I'm not sure I adequately captured it in the pictures. It's a winding path made by the San Juan River through the canyon. Seriously, friends, we have seen a LOT of canyons this week, and still we thought this one was pretty amazing.

The main attraction is right in front of you once you enter the park, and basically you just wander around the rim until you've looked your fill. There isn't really hiking to speak of, though we did see some people camping. I read that it can get really hot in the summer, but on this cool spring morning it was just about perfect.
