Hello from the vast reaches of the Upper Peninsula! Specifically from a cabin in the Hiawatha National Forest about 10 miles south of Munising, Michigan (so about halfway across and at the top of the UP). The drive up was very pretty, and it was exciting to cross the Mackinac Bridge from the Lower Peninsula to the Upper Peninsula. We found our cabin with no problem, despite it being a looooong way down a not-well-marked dirt road, then spent the rest of the night getting groceries and settling in.
We had high hopes for seeing some waterfalls and exploring the area today, and we found one waterfall right along the road. We drove through town and up to a scenic overlook to get our first good look at Lake Superior, and then it started to rain a little. And then a lot. And it didn't stop. UGH. We ended up coming back to the cabin and playing board games and napping the rest of the day away, and more storms are coming tonight. Tomorrow is supposed to be clear though, which is a good thing because we've got PLANS!
Speaking of plans, we had planned to bring Charlie along, but at the last minute my uncle Matt, who is visiting from Atlanta, decided to house- and dog-sit for us. Which turned out to be a very good thing, because we brought cousin Jimmy along for the trip, and we seriously underestimated the amount of room in the van. Before too long we're going to have to get a roof carrier. And a trailer. And possibly an RV. We'll keep you posted.
